This morning I'd like to speak to you on a longstanding issue that has fueled controversy for thousands of years. It's a teaching that has been misconstrued and misinterpreted. Matthew 5:1-2 tells us, "And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying..." And what follows is the profound opening of the Sermon on the Mount, where our Lord Jesus Christ expounds upon the Beatitudes, those beautiful attitudes that should be present in the life of every believer.
