Colossians 2:15

The Triumph of the Cross

If we turn our Bibles to Colossians this morning, Colossians chapter number 2, I'd like us to consider reading from verses 8 through to verse number 15. The Word of God reads, "Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision mad… Continue reading...

Colossians 2:13-14

Forgiven

Colossians 2:11-15 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary… Continue reading...

Spiritual Circumcision

Well, we've been continuing our journey through the book of Colossians, and last week we looked at verses 8 through 10. We considered the warning that the Apostle Paul was giving to the church of Colossae. That warning was simply this: they were to beware and be warned against philosophies and empty deceits that were described and characterized by traditions and everything else but Christ. Paul warned them about this, but we also looked at the fact that he wasn't just satisfied with warning the people. He understood that warning was insuffic… Continue reading...

Philosophies of men

Well, we've been going through a series through the book of Colossians on Tuesday nights, but I've thought to carry that on into Sunday mornings. So if you haven't been following along, I'll just recap from particularly Colossians 2:1-4 and 5 down to verse number 7, so you can know where we're up to at least.

In verses 1 through to 4, Paul expresses that he has a great conflict of soul for the people there at Colossae. He was concerned for them, and the concern that he had was a genuine concern. He was concerned that their discouragem… Continue reading...

Psalm 116

The bountiful favours of God

Psalm 116, reading from verse number one:

I love the Lord because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live. The pains of death surrounded me, and the pangs of Sheol lay hold of me; I found trouble and sorrow. Then I called upon the name of the Lord: "O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul!" Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yes, our God is merciful. The Lord preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me. Return to your rest, O my s… Continue reading...
